Man whose daughter was raped in hospital prefers cash, not suspect's trial— Citizens of Nigeria(Official) (@FRNcitizens) August 30, 2019
A man whose 14-year-old daughter was allegedly raped about a week ago by a 67-year-old man in Rivers State, has opted for financial compensation, rather than have the police go ahead with an investigation.
Police station Elelewon Portharcourt and he was arrested and case transferred to SCID. I was surprised to hear Chief Shedrack has been released after paying N370,000. I spoke to the 14year old victim and she told me she was forced to agree the terms.— Harrison Gwamnishu (Behind Bars)🇳🇬🇺🇸 (@HarrisonBbi18) August 31, 2019

This is an "agreement" prepared by a #Nigerian lawyer in order to compound the crime of rape of a child. It speaks for itself. Forget the grammar & syntax, there must be serious questions abt the propriety, legality & ethics of this. @NigBarAssoc has a lot of work to do. pic.twitter.com/15ZktiFkTu— Chidi Odinkalu (@ChidiOdinkalu) August 31, 2019
This is gross injustice & preposterous to say the least. There's no way N370k can compensate for rape of a 14yr old minor. Our values are eroded when those who should uphold the law begin to circumvent it to please powerful & rich clients at the expense of the poor! @NigBarAssoc https://t.co/apEqXCuuRr— Olufunke Baruwa (@FunkeBaruwa) August 31, 2019
I find it very unnerving that all those who signed this criminal settlement are men..from the lawyers to her father. They all think they have the right to monetarily quantify the value of the pain & trauma a 14 year old minor will endure for a lifetime. This case should be heard.— Olufunke Baruwa (@FunkeBaruwa) August 31, 2019
